As we head into the Christmas season it's easy to lose sight of the desperation of our neighbors in other parts of the world. For the most part, in the U.S, we don't have to worry about where we're going to get our next meal or whether our kids will live to see their 18th birthday.
Just across the Atlantic Ocean from us lies Swaziland, Africa. If you live in Swaziland, you're not expected to survive to your 33rd birthday. There are abandoned cities crawling with orphaned children with no parents and nowhere to call home.
The United Nations predicts that if something isn't done NOW, the Swaziland people (all 1.2 million of them) will be extinct by 2050.
This is where you come in...
USLandCo has joined Partners In Action to transform Bulembo, a small abandoned town in Swaziland into a place of hope for thousands of widows and orphans. Our vision is to provide jobs, housing, medical care, and schools to those who have no other place of hope and we need your help!
First, we need to address the AIDS pandemic that is killing Swaziland...
Currently there is an 80-bed hospital which can be renovated to provide both general medical care and prenatal care to expecting mothers. By taking simple steps such as providing pregnant mothers with AIDS nutritional, medicinal (an 80 cent pill) and prenatal care, we can drastically reduce the chances a child will contract AIDS by 97%. We can renovate and supply the hospital for $3,000 per room.
Secondly, we need to provide safe housing for the widows and orphans...
Currently, there are 1,200 houses, two hostels, and two apartment buildings that will provide housing. These buildings are currently vacant and in bad need of renovation. To make the homes livable and secure, they will be renovated, furnished, and maintained by donors like USLandCo. We can purchase, renovate and furnish a house for $8,000. The homes will have one widow/home mother who will care for ten orphans and will be a safe haven where children will be sheltered, clothed, and fed.
We also need to expand the nurseries for "Throw Away Babies." These are babies left almost anywhere for almost any reason...under trees, at doorsteps, in rest rooms, or even at the side of the road.
Third, we need to educate the orphans in this community...
In Bulembo, there are three schools that can educate up to 1,800 children. We need to renovate these schools, purchase furnishings such as desks and supplies and then hire teachers to provide these children an education they otherwise wouldn't receive. We can renovate and furnish these schools for $5,000 per room.
Finally, we need to spearhead economic growth...
There are manufacturing buildings and other support structures such as stores, gas stations, and schools that will help the city to thrive even further. Bulembu can be a thriving city providing a livelihood to widows, orphans, and the unemployed. Some business areas that seem to be viable options in the city include: Timber, Real Estate, Private Education, Vocational Schools, Furniture, Honey, Events Planning, Adventure Tours, Lodge/Hotel, Fish Farm, Cable Car Tours, Avocado Farm, Dairy Farm, Pallets, and Manufacturing.
What Can I Do?
Good question! First, let me tell you what USLandCo is doing. We believe so strongly in this cause, that we've decided to donate a percentage of the profits from USLandCo toward this vision. That means that whatever you buy (home study, boot camp, etc) will help support the rebuilding of this dying region. By investing in yourself, you'll also be investing in your neighboring orphans and widows in Bulembo, Africa.
